(Photo Credit: Photo: Ross Halfin) As he’s done in recent years, Alice Cooper will spend this New Year’s Eve rocking out with some of his famous friends on the Hawaiian island of Maui to raise money for a local food bank. The shock rocker tells ABC News Radio that, for the show, “We just kind of like put all the guys [who are] on the island together and make up a band. We never know who’s going to be on the island, so the band changes every year.” Cooper reveals that the lineup for this year’s concert will include Steven Tyler, Sammy Hagar and Weird Al Yankovic. Alice says the event is great, while noting that the set generally features the various stars singing a bunch of cover tunes, like The Beatles’ “Back in the U.S.S.R.” or The Rolling Stones’ “Brown Sugar.” Meanwhile, Cooper also shares his New Year’s resolution, declaring, perhaps jokingly, that it’s “to be more tolerant of wimpy rock.” Back in July, during an interview with Fuse, Alice delivered some critical comments about some of today’s popular young acoustic-based bands, saying, “If I wanted to go see a great clog-dancing band, I’d go see Lumineers,” and “Mumford & [Sons] are great at what they do, but it’s not rock ‘n’ roll.” The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer explains to ABC News Radio he “wasn’t knocking [those groups’] ability to play or what they did,” but he misses hearing young bands that emulate classic hard-rock acts like Guns N’ Roses and Aerosmith. “There’s just so many young bands out there that are so introspective that they’re boring as hell,” he adds. “I want to hear bands that play from their groin, not from their brain.” Reminiscing about his early days in the music business, Cooper points out, “I come from a different era where every band was exciting. You’d go to see Deep Purple or you’d go to see Thin Lizzy or Jimi Hendrix or Cream…Those bands were just great rock monsters, and you just can’t find those guys anymore.” Copyright 2013 ABC News Radio
