Nirvana, KISS, Peter Gabriel Among 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees

Nirvana and KISS are two of the acts who have been named to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's class of 2014.

Peter Gabriel, Hall and OatesLinda Ronstadt and Cat Stevens, a.k.a. Yusuf Islam, round out the latest inductees, who will be honored April 10, 2014, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Nirvana is being recognized in their first year of eligibility. Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after their first release.

2014 will mark the 25th anniversary of Nirvana's debut album, Bleach. Their frontman, Kurt Cobain, died in 1994.

KISS is somewhat of a surprise, not necessarily because they don't have the credentials, but because the band's fans had believed for years the makeup-wearing rockers had been wrongly snubbed.

Hall and Oates, Gabriel and Ronstadt were first-time nominees.

The other nominees who were considered for induction this year were YESThe ReplacementsTheZombies, guitarist Link WrayDeep PurpleChicThe Paul Butterfield Blues BandThe Meters, and rap acts LL Cool J and N.W.A.

The inductees were chosen by more than 700 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. The public took part in the process via an online vote that comprised a "fans' ballot."

At this year's ceremony, which will be open to the public, Bruce Springsteen's backing group, the E Street Band, will receive the Award for Music Excellence. The Beatles' late manager Brian Epstein and The Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham will earn Ahmet Ertegun Awards, presented to non-performers.

The event will air on HBO in May.
