Bassist Kim Shattuck “Shocked” by Dismissal from Pixies

If you were shocked by news of Kim Shattuck's recent dismissal from the Pixies, she's still reeling as well.  The bassist says despite verbally agreeing to tour with the group in 2014, she was surprised to get a phone call from the band’s manager, who informed her that she wouldn’t be continuing on with the guys.

“Everything had gone well, the reviews were all good and the fans were super-nice about everything,” she tells NME. "We said goodbye at the airport and the following morning the manager called me and said: 'The band has made the decision to go with another bass player.' I was shocked."

While Shattuck isn’t sure why she was let go, she speculates it may have been because she performed a stage dive at a recent show on the West Coast. "There was a show at the Mayan in Los Angeles where I got overly enthusiastic and jumped into the crowd, and I know they weren't thrilled about that,” she explains. “When I got offstage the manager told me not to do that again. I said, 'Really, for my own safety?' And he said, 'No, because the Pixies don't do that’."

While Shattuck wishes the guys would have told her she’d be leaving the band “face to face as a group,” she isn’t holding a grudge and claims she’s “still a fan of the Pixies.”

The Pixies recently announced that Paz Lenchantin, who previously played with A Perfect CircleZWANand The Entrance Band, will take Shattuck’s place in the lineup.
