A new contest has been launched that's offering one lucky Jimi Hendrix-loving guitar virtuoso the chance to perform live during the upcoming 2014 installment of the star-studded Experience Hendrix tribute tour. To take part in the Jimi Hendrix Guitar Competition, participating musicians are being asked to submit a video of themselves playing a classic Hendrix song.
One grand-prize winner will be selected by a team of judges that includes Jimi's sister and Experience Hendrix CEO Janie Hendrix; famed Hendrix engineer Eddie Kramer; acclaimed producer andEurythmics guitarist Dave Stewart; and Guitar World editor-in-chief Brad Tolinski. In addition to being invited to play a song live during the Experience Hendrix trek, the winning guitarist also will receive complimentary travel and lodging expenses, a Fender Stratocaster guitar, a $2,500 prize, Hendrix merchandise, digital recording equipment, effects pedals and more.
In addition, five runners-up will be chosen by the public via an online vote. The runners-up will get a Fender Squire guitar, plus most of the same Hendrix merchandise, digital recording equipment, effects pedals and other goodies the contest winner receives.
Entries must be submitted by January 15, 2014, while voting will take place from January 16 to January 22. The winner will be revealed on February 6.
